Sections

In Minitek FAQ Book, sections serve as topic containers. Each section is independent and is linked to a FAQ Book Section menu item.

  Warning

Section menu items are mandatory. The section and topic links will not work unless you create a menu item of type FAQ Book Pro > Section for each section.

To create a new section:

  1. Go to Sections and click on "New".

  2. Enter a title and an optional description.

  3. Configure the section parameters.

    Navigation

    Top navigation: Select whether you want to display the top navigation bar. The top navigation bar serves as a breadcrumbs menu for easy navigation in parent topics and section.

    Sections link: Links back to the Sections page. You can disable it if you have only one section and no Sections menu item.

    Sections menu item: The menu item that links to the Sections page.

    Authorize Questions link: Displays a button that allows guest users to authorize anonymous questions.

    Left navigation: Select whether you want to display the left navigation menu. The left navigation menu displays all topics under this specific section.

    Load Topics:

    • Endpoint topics: When clicking on a topic in the left navigation menu, the topic content and questions will be loaded only if the topic does not have children topics.

    • All topics: When clicking on a topic in the left navigation menu, the topic content and questions will always be loaded even if the topic has children topics.

    Browse Topics link: Displays a link that loads the section Topics Tree.

    Options

    Section class: A custom class to be applied to the section column in the Sections page.

    Section title: If enabled, the section title is displayed at the top of the section page.

    Section description: If enabled, the section description is displayed at the top of the section page.

    Section image: Select or upload an image for this section. The image will be displayed in the section column in the Sections page.

    Topics Tree

    Show topics tree: Select whether you want to display the topics tree in the section page.

    Show header: Displays the Browse Topics title.

    Show icons: Displays the icons for top-level topics.

    Show images: Show or hide the images for top-level topics. Images take precedence over icons.

    Maximum levels: Maximum level of children topics for the topics tree.

    Columns: Number of columns for the topics tree.

    Section Questions

    Show questions:

    • Active topic: Displays the questions of a specific topic in the section page.

    • All topics: Displays questions from all topics in the section page.

    Active topic: A specific active topic.

      Warning

    In multi-language websites, selecting an active topic that is assigned to a language that is not the same as the section or the current menu item language, will lead to a 404 error.

    Popular Topics

    Show popular topics: Select whether you want to display the popular topics in the section page.

    Show header: Displays the Popular Topics title.

    Popular topics count: Number of popular topics to be displayed in the section page.

    Popular topics columns: Number of columns for the popular topics.

    Popular topics title: Show or hide the topic title.

    Popular topics description: Show or hide the topic description.

    Description limit: Word limit for the topic description.

    Popular topics image: Show or hide the topic image.

    Popular Questions

    Show popular questions: Select whether you want to display the popular questions in the section page.

    Show header: Displays the Popular Questions title.

    Popular questions count: Number of popular questions to be displayed in the section page.

    Popular questions content: Show or hide the question content.

    Content limit: Word limit for the question content.

    Question Form Pro

    Ask Question button: The button will be visible only to users who have Create permissions.

    • In top navigation: Displays a single button in the top navigation bar.

    • In topic page: Displays a button for each topic, at the top of the topic page.

    Question form pre-text: Custom HTML content to be displayed at the top of the question form.

    Topic

    Topic title: If enabled, the topic title is displayed at the top of the topic page.

    Topic description: If enabled, the topic description is displayed at the top of the topic page.

    Topic image: Select or upload an image for this topic. The image will be displayed at the top of the topic page.

    Group method Pro:

    • Separate topic and subtopics: Questions in topic pages will be displayed in separate groups. One group for parent topic and one group for each first level subtopic.

    • Merge topic and subtopics: Questions of parent topic and all subtopics will merge in one common group.

    Topic votes Pro: If enabled, users will be able to vote for this topic.

    Separate Topic and Subtopics

    Subtopics: Show or hide first-level subtopics.

    Subtopics title: Show or hide the subtopics title.

    Subtopics description: Show or hide the subtopics description.

    Subtopics image: Show or hide the subtopics image.

    Subtopics questions: Show or hide the subtopics questions.

    Questions Ordering

    Ordering type Pro:

    • Static: A pre-set ordering of questions that can not be changed by the user.

    • Dynamic: Allows the user to change the questions ordering via tabs.

    Static Ordering

    Static ordering: Select the field that questions will be ordered by.

    Static ordering direction: Select ordering direction.

    Dynamic Ordering Pro

    Active tab: Active ordering on page load when no tab is selected.

    Recent questions tab: Show or hide recent questions tab.

    Top questions tab: Show or hide top questions tab.

    Featured questions tab: Show or hide featured questions tab.

    Unanswered questions tab: Show or hide unanswered questions tab.

    Resolved questions tab: Show or hide resolved questions tab.

    Unresolved questions tab: Show or hide unresolved questions tab.

    Open questions tab: Show or hide open questions tab. If Only Moderators is selected, the tab will be visible only to users that have permission to Edit State.

    Pending questions tab: Show or hide pending questions tab. If Only Moderators is selected, the tab will be visible only to users that have permission to Edit State.

    Questions

    Theme Pro: Select the questions theme.

    • FAQ

    • Discussions

    • Social

    Show opened: If enabled and FAQ theme is selected, questions will be displayed opened.

    Votes Pro: Show or hide questions votes.

    Question link Pro: Show or hide questions link (only for FAQ theme).

    Answers count Pro: Show or hide answers count.

    State labels Pro: Show or hide state labels (resolved, open, pending). If Only Moderators is selected, the labels will be visible only to users that have permission to Edit State.

    Image: Show or hide questions image.

    Content: Show or hide questions content (for FAQ theme, it shows or hides the content preview).

    Content limit: Word limit for questions content (for FAQ theme, word limit for content preview). Enter 0 to disable content truncation.

    Views Pro: Show or hide questions views.

    Date: Show or hide questions created date.

    Author: Show or hide questions author.

    Author name: Select type of author name.

    Author link: Author link will point to user profile. You must also create a Profile menu item.

    Avatar Pro: Only applies for Social theme.

    • No: Don't show author avatars.

    • Show initials: Displays an avatar with a procedurally generated color that contains author name initials.

    • Use Gravatar images: Displays user images from Gravatar.

    Topic: Show or hide questions parent topic.

    • Parent topic: Last-level parent topic.

    • All parent topics: All levels of parent topics up to first-level topic.

    Question Pro

    Theme: Select a question theme.

    • Stack

    • Social

    State labels: Show or hide state labels (resolved, open, pending). If Only Moderators is selected, the labels will be visible only to users that have permission to Edit State. State labels are always visible for user's own questions.

    Votes: Show or hide question votes.

    Topic: Show or hide question parent topic.

    • Parent topic: Last-level parent topic.

    • All parent topics: All levels of parent topics up to first-level topic.

    Views: Show or hide question views.

    Created date: Show or hide question created date.

    Author: Show or hide question author.

    Avatar:

    • No: Don't show author avatars.

    • Show initials: Displays an avatar with a procedurally generated color that contains author name initials.

    • Use Gravatar images: Displays user images from Gravatar.

    Akeeba subs: Shows the Akeeba subscriptions of question author. WARNING: The Akeeba Subscriptions component must be installed and enabled. Subscriptions are not displayed if author has permission to edit state.

    Modified date: Show or hide question modified date.

    Answers

    Answers: Show or hide question answers.

    Ordering: Active ordering on page load when no tab is selected.

    Ordering tabs: Show or hide ordering tabs.

    Votes: Show or hide answers votes.

    Select answer: Allows question owner or moderators to select answer as Best answer.

    Created date: Show or hide answers created date.

    Author: Show or hide answers author.

    Avatar:

    • No: Don't show author avatars.

    • Show initials: Displays an avatar with a procedurally generated color that contains author name initials.

    • Use Gravatar images: Displays user images from Gravatar.

    Modified date: Show or hide answers modified date.

    Show login message: Displays a message prompting users to login in order to post an answer.

    Answer form:

    • Inline: Displays the answer form inside the question page, below the answers.

    • New page: Displays the answer form on a new page.

    Votes

    Allow guests to vote: If enabled, guest users will be able to vote for questions and answers.

  4. Finally you must create a menu item for the section. Go to your preferred menu in Menu Manager and click on "New".

    In the field Menu Item Type click on "Select". Select FAQ Book Pro and click on "Section".

    In the field Section select the section that you created in the previous steps. Click on "Save & Close".

    You can now visit the section in the front-end. The left navigation menu will be empty unless you create some topics in this section.
