Import Data into FAQ Book Pro Database

Thank you very much for this wonderful extension. I had been looking for something like this for a long time.

The website that I am using will have a knowledge base but there will be a lot of data. Is there a way that I can "import" this information somehow? I am potentially going to have hundreds of "topics" and "questions" and manually creating these 1 by 1 will take an excruciating amount of time.

Please let me know if this is possible or not.

Sincerely,

Varant

Hi Varant,

Unofrtunately there is no import functionality yet.
We will add this feature in one of the next updates.

What format would you be interested in (CSV etc) ?

Hi Yannis,

Thanks for the response. CSV and similar methods is a good starting point but that would help with importing text alone (unless you have a workaround to that). I am currently compiling information about the database content that we are looking at importing and I don't think that text-based importing will be enough. Are you guys looking at having multiple methods of import?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Sincerely,

Varant

An alternative would be to import a CSV file to the FAQ Book Pro questions table using phpmyadmin.

You just need to make sure that your CSV columns match the questions table columns.

Also, before you import the data, you must create the Topic structure in FAQ Book Pro so that you enter the correct topic id for each question in the CSV.

If I understand correctly, you want to import the contents of another database table to FAQ Book Pro?

Yes, in essence that's what we are potentially going to be doing.

Using phpmyadmin, would I need to assign my own unique "asset_id" as well?

Also, the questions are stored in "_minitek_faqbook_questions" from my investigation, correct?

Yes, the table for questions is
__minitek_faqbook_questions

You can leave the following columns empty:
(they will be automatically populated by the component if needed)

- asset_id
- created_by_alias
- created_by_email
- modified
- modified_by
- checked_out
- checked_out_time
- publish_down
- images
- urls
- ordering
- metakey
- metadesc
- hits
- xreference

The value for the column attribs should be:
{"question_title":"","question_image":"","question_image_width":"","question_image_height":"","question_description":"","question_date":"","question_date_format":"","question_author":"","question_voting":"","question_editlink":""}

The value for the column metadata should be:
{"robots":"","author":"","rights":"","xreference":""}

Thanks for all the help Yannis. I will start looking into this. If I run into any issues, I will definitely get in touch with you. Can we leave this ticket open for the time being? I want to make sure I don't encounter any issues during the import process.

Thanks,

Varant
