Is it possible to use Smart Search as a module? I would like to place the search field in the upper right hand corner of my site, like I had with the old built in smart search. But because it is only a menu option, my users have to click on the search menu on the menu bar, and that loads a second page, just to do the search.

I would very much like to have the ability to use it like a module, and configure the width of the search field to match the width of the module position.

Is this possible to do?

Also, second question. When you enter some search terms (like "fantastic") It shows 9 out of 9 results. That's right.

But when I enter other search terms, like "CALPADS" it shows 161 results. However, when you go through the pagination, there are really only about 109 results. So some results pages turn up with no results. This is confusing. I tried to re-index the search terms but that did not work.

Please advise. Thanks!

Hi Chris,

1. We are planning to introduce a module in one of the next versions released in a few weeks, however there are still some considerations regarding the module functionality.

The thing is that Minitek Smart Search automatically appends the results in the component area of the menu item when entering a search term in the search field.
How do you suggest that the module worked? I mean, where will the results be appended when inserting the search field in a module? Appending the results in the module position is not a viable solution since the component needs a lot of space to show the results.

In our website we have created a custom solution with an iframe (you can see it in the top right corner of the page, just click on the search icon). What do you think about that solution? Or do you have another idea?

2. I will look into the problem and let you know soon.

2. It looks like an indexer issue. Minitek Smart Search is using the Joomla Finder built-in indexer.

To verify this, please create a menu item for the Joomla Smart Search (Finder component) and perform the same search ("calpads").
Does the problem persists?
If it does, it seems that some smart search plugins are creating some "empty" links (indexed items). How many and which smart search plugins are you using?

Hi Yannis.

Yes, I saw that custom solution with the iframe. That's why I knew this was (sort of) an option.

What would be ideal is to have two search areas. One, one every page, in the upper right hand corner of the page, in module position Toolbar-Right (see attached image).

It would also be cool to have a larger search bar on the home page in module position "Main-Top".

Both could generate results in the Main-Top module position.

See how Yootheme also builds it directly into the main menu bar on their site: https://demo.yootheme.com/joomla/nano3

The module should have controls to let you set how much of the description you want to show (could be set to none),

But I think this would be a great think for minitek search. I'm happy to help you build that out and test it on my site.

For reply #2,

When I use the built-in smart search module (I have re-added it to the top of my site, so you can see the difference), it doesn't trigger the smart search response.

And when you enter CALPADS you get 640 results (which is expected), and not the 109 results.

Even though it is using the same indexer, the minitek search seems like it is skipping a lot of responses.

Hope this helps you debug it! :)

I can't replicate this issue yet on my end.

Can you please send me FTP access?
