An error has occurred. 0 String could not be parsed as XML

Joomla! Extensions - Professional Subscription

I installed the Smart Search component on a clean installation of 3.6.4. It gives no errors during the load, and the menu shows the component "Minitek Smart Search"

However, when I try to access the component through the admin menu, I get this error:

An error has occurred.
0 String could not be parsed as XML
Return to Control Panel

Since there were no errors on installation, and since my setup meets the minimum requirements, and because there are very few other extensions installed on this site, I'm not sure what to do next.

Please advise!

Hi Chris,

Please install v.1.0.2. I have added a new configuration parameter to disable version checking.
There seems to be an incompatibilty between your server and the version checking feature.
